I was born in Halifax, Canada, grew up within earshot of the steel mills of Hamilton, earned a BA in translation (Queens), a PhD in Comparative Literature (University of Toronto), worked in feminist publishing, moved to Australia in my 30s. I’ve taught in universities around the world, lived in Paris, and been water-wise through drought on three continents.
